South Beach hosts numerous regular events, and pretty well has a party going on all day every day for the entire year. These are but a few of the activities locals and tourists have to keep them highly entertained.
Art Deco Weekend is one of the few things causing Ocean Drive (the street) to be shut down. This three day event, usually held in mid-January is a wonderful event, with tents being erected all along Ocean Drive featuring Art Deco items, art, food, and drinks. VolleyPalooza (www.volleypalooza.com), typically held around the middle of February is a three day beach volleyball tournament, where the teams are made up from local modeling agencies (teams must be made up of both men and women). Not only can these models play some serious volleyball, but they really look great doing it. The primary sponsor of this event is Ocean Drive magazine (www.oceandrive.com). Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail is usually held in mid-February in the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Taste of the Beach, usually held in mid-April (although perhaps being moved to October) involves South Beach restaurants setting up tents on Lincoln Road, and offering samplings of some of their excellent food. Cinco de Mayo is of course celebrated on May 5. In Mexico, the "Battle of Puebla" (often referred to simply as "Cinco de Mayo" in the United States) marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Although South Beach is known for its Cuban, South American, and European population, there are certainly many South Beach residents and visitors from Mexico as well. And besides, South Beach enjoys throwing a party to celebrate most any event as part of most any culture and national heritage. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in South Beach with numerous parties, often including specials on Mexican beers, tequila, and food in various restaurants and bars.
International Ballet Festival of Miami in the Jackie Gleason Theater. This event is typically a week long in mid-September, and features internationally renowned dance groups.

Halloween in South Beach provides a great deal of visual entertainment. Locals and tourists alike get fairly elaborate in their costumes. And there are usually groups rollerblading in costume down Ocean Drive throughout the evening and well into the night. Not that South Beach needs an excuse to party, but Halloween kicks the fun up one more notch (if that's possible). Orange Bowl is the well known annual New Year's event between two of college football's premier teams (the game itself is now played at Pro Player Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, rather than at the Orange Bowl). Numerous other associated activities lead up to the game including the famous Orange Bowl parade.

Thanksgiving 2002 Prefilming | CBS wanted some Thanksgiving Day parade footage for their All American Thanksgiving special this year, and what better place to film a parade than on Ocean Drive. The street was closed on November 6, grandstands were set up, and two filmings were done (at 10:00a.m. and at 1:00p.m.).
