The beach area, particularly the area near Lummus Park, has numerous permanent beach volleyball nets set up. In the middle of a particularly warm day in the middle of the summer, they don't get much use. But for much of the year, there are several games going on most every day. And several of the South Beach locals are serious volleyball players, including some semi-pros.
There are often amateur and professional tournaments during the prime winter months. And an event that is always fun for all is VolleyPalooza, typically held around the middle of February. It's a three day beach volleyball tournament, where the teams are made up from local modeling agencies (teams must be made up of both men and women). Not only can these models play some serious volleyball, but they really look great doing it.
